Penn Central Weathered 70' Heavyweight Baggage Car #X28147
- Railroads require constant upkeep, repair and maintenance, so older railcars that are still roadworthy are often converted to Maintenance of Way duties, including maintenance of the right-of-way, tool and equipment supply and storage, and materials for railcar repair and wreck recovery. Penn Central was formed through the merger of Pennsylvania Railroad and New York Central, and operated until 1976 when it was rolled into Conrail Corporation. This car carried jet engine parts for use on snow & ice clearing trains.
