This expanded edition includes coverage through October 15, 2004. It describes the 5,500 owned and 420 leased locomotives by roster number series and a model group with technical specifications on every model. This is followed by a hundred percent line-by-line roster reflecting builder data, renumber and repaint dates. Other sections discuss retirements, new motive power, paint schemes, renumbering, model acquisition summaries, and a complete roster of the over 250 BNSF locomotives converted to remote control operation.

Book lists the complete owned, subsidiary and leased locomotive fleet for the BNSF Railway. It is the sixth BNSF Locomotive Review in the series published since 1997 which have documents the fleet's evolution since the corporate merger. Illustrating the text and statistics are photo representations of the owned and leased locomotive fleet so as to provide the reader a visual profile of each model, the various BNSF and pre-merger paint schemes for models currently on the active renumber kits. The period covered by this book is April 30, 2003 through October 15, 2004 unless otherwise stated.
